Competent Crew
The Competent Crew course is for beginners and for those who would like to become active crew members, rather than just passengers and is RYA recognised. By the end of your time with OffshoreScotland you will be able to steer, handle sails, keep a look-out, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day routines associated with the safe running and handling of the vessel.
OffshoreScotland is a sea school based at Largs, on the west coast of Scotland, and is recognised by the Royal Yachting Association as a recognised training centre. As well as providing a range of RYA sail cruising courses we also offer milebuilding passages, skippered charter and bareboat charter using our yacht Esperanza.
Sailing beginners, even if they have completed the Start Yachting course, might not have decided just how far they want to go with their sailing hobby. But this is not as important as making sure that they enjoy the sheer bliss and freedom of sailing safely in unspoilt Scottish waters, often with a scenic backdrop that rivals anything in the world.
But be warned, if you catch the boating bug then your life will quite probably never be the same again.
Each Yachtmaster and skipper at OffshoreScotland is RYA qualified and fully certficated to teach the Competent Crew syllabus in a practical but fun way and also provides a wealth of knowledge of Scottish inshore and offshore waters.
